On the Oldenburg–Wilhelmshaven dual-track line 1522 between Varel and Sande from km 35.200 to km 43.950; permissible travel speeds will be increased to 120 km/h and axle loads to 23.5 tonnes. The section of line, including tracks and structures, is to therefore undergo complete renewal during single-track operation and weekend closures.

- Soil improvement using the milling-mixing injection method to a depth of 9 m over a distance of 6,200 m

- Soil improvement via partially cemented vibrating stone columns over a distance of 220 m
- Renewal of a steel bridge built on drilling piles
- Installation of support plates over existing culverts in FMI sections
- Underground cable construction along 8,600 m of track length
- New noise barrier 870 m in length
